# Data Repositories

Repositories are needed to store Factory Models in terms of assets, 3D files, animations.

Data repositories can be either installed [locally ](/vlft/kb/instantiation/datarepo/local.md)or made available [remotely ](/vlft/kb/instantiation/datarepo/remote.md)via communication protocols (e.g. HTTP, FTP).
